Tell us a little about yourself. Who is Cukie Dady, and where did the name come from?

Cukie: My birth name is Aloyce. However, Cukie is a name that was given to me by my late grandmother.

When I first started learning music production, there was a day when I stayed up all night trying to come up with a producer tag. Eventually, it was time for me to go to school, and my grandmother called out “Cukie” about three times.

“Cukie” is a word from the Hehe tribe, and it means “it has dawned” or “morning has come.”

After hearing my grandmother repeat the name several times, I realized that it sounded good and felt right for me. That was the moment I decided to start using Cukie as my professional name.

The name has a personal meaning for me because it connects my music identity to my grandmother and to where I come from.

How did your journey into music production begin?

Cukie: My journey in music production began while I was still in school.

At the time, I was also an artist, and I had opportunities to perform at different school events, including graduation ceremonies and other celebrations. However, the distance I had to travel to record my music became a major challenge.

One day, I arrived home very late after going to record my music, and my parents became so worried that they reported me missing at the police station.

After experiencing that situation and realizing how difficult it was to travel long distances just to record, I decided that it would be better for me to learn music production myself.

That decision marked the beginning of my journey as a music producer.

What started as a practical solution eventually became something much bigger. Learning to produce gave me the ability to create whenever inspiration came and allowed me to take greater control over my music.

What's your favorite instrument to work with, and how do you approach choosing plugins?

Cukie: My favorite instrument to work with is the piano.

I love the piano because it allows me to create strong melodies and express deep emotions through music. It gives me the freedom to experiment with different chords, melodies, and moods, and it often becomes the starting point for my productions.

For me, the piano is more than just an instrument. It is a way of turning my feelings, experiences, and ideas into music.

When it comes to plugins, it really depends on what I'm trying to create. I choose my plugins based on the sound, mood, and direction of the particular song.

Sometimes I need something that gives me warm and emotional sounds, while other times I look for plugins that help me create unique or atmospheric textures.

I don't necessarily have one favorite plugin because I like to explore different sounds depending on the production.

What project or accomplishment are you most proud of so far?

Cukie: One of the projects that makes me most proud of my work is “I Wish” by Kusah.

It was my first opportunity to work with a well-known and established artist in Tanzania, and the song performed very well.

This project was a major milestone in my journey as a producer because it showed me that my work could reach a wider audience and stand alongside artists at a high level.

It gave me confidence in my abilities and motivated me to continue developing my sound and pursuing bigger opportunities.

What made you decide to join Elizabeth Music Group?

Cukie: What made me decide to join Elizabeth Music Group was, first of all, my desire to grow and reach music listeners all around the world.

I want my music to reach audiences beyond Tanzania and connect with listeners internationally. Being part of a publishing company that can help represent my work globally was an important step toward that goal.

What does your creative process look like when you're making music?

Cukie: For me, music is my life because my life is built around the work I do in music.

Whenever I start working, whether I'm making a beat or recording a song, I always love to pray and ask God to help me make the work successful.

I remind God that this is the talent He gave me, and I ask Him to open my mind, give me creativity, and guide me to create something meaningful.

That is an important part of my creative process. I believe music is a gift, and I want to use that gift to create something that has meaning and can connect with people.

Whether I'm sitting at the piano searching for the right melody or experimenting with different sounds and textures, I try to let the music develop naturally while keeping that sense of purpose behind what I'm creating.
